Legalization of foreign nationals in Greece:
Law 4332/2015.
If you are illegally residing in the territory of the Hellenic Republic, your visa or residence permit has expired and you want to continue to live in Greece the only way is to legalize your stay in the country.
From October 2015 began the legalization of illegally residing in the territory of the citizens of Greece. This became possible after the Law № 4332 “Code of migration and social integration”, which introduced amendments and additions to the existing, to date law number 4251 of 2014.
Who can apply for legalization, followed by obtaining a residence permit ?
- Who enters Greek territory with a Greek visa and lives constantly in the country for at least three years.
To Lodge the documents, you need to provide a valid passport, from which it will be seen that you live in Greece and you have not left Greece for at least the last three years so you can prove “strong relations” with Greece.
What is meant by “strong relations” with Greece? It may be:
- good knowledge of the Greek language, which can be supported by attending courses of the Greek language
- affirmation of the intention of the future employer to hire the immigrant to work, after the acquisition of residence permit
- Entering Cohabitation Agreement with a Greek citizen or a citizen of EU
- cohabitation with a citizen of Greece, a rental agreement is needed or house ownership and / or a bank account
- relation with Greek citizen
- have children with a Greek citizen
- confirmation by Greek school that children are studying in Greece
- ownership of real estate in Greece
- Arrived legally in Greece with a Schengen Union visa and the residence in the country for the last seven years at least without leaving country.
To Lodge the documents you need to provide a valid passport, prove “strong relations” with Greece and provide all possible evidence of the stay in the country (checks of payment of the applicant’s name, telephone bills, etc.).
- The loss of existing residence permit (residence permit for less than five years) with a total period of stay in Greece for at least ten years.
To Lodge documents must be submitted:
- a valid passport or a certificate from the Consulate ( of the country which issued the passport) that a new passport can not be issued
- original expired residence permit
- valid health insurance (if insurance does not exists, you can buy 50 stamps, to open Books in ΙΚΑ).
- proof of “strong relations” with Greece and provide all possible evidence of stay in the country for the period (checks on payment of an immigrant’s name, help with medical institutions, payment of telephone bills, etc.).
- The loss of existing residence permit (residence permit for at least five years) with a total period of stay in Greece for at least ten years.
To Lodge documents must be submitted:
- a valid passport or a certificate from the Consulate ( of the country which issued the passport) that a new passport can not be issued
- original expired residence permit
- valid health insurance (if insurance does not exists, you can buy 50 stamps, to open Books in ΙΚΑ).
- proof of “strong relations” with Greece is not needed
When Lodging documents to obtain a residence permit, a state fee must be paid at the amount of 300 euros.
